Evan Quinn Gray

Evan Quinn Gray was born to James Edward Gray Jr. and Kristen Ingrid Maurstad Gray on November 18, 1986 in Plano, Texas. Evan was raised in a loving, Christian home. He was the oldest of three children. Evan is survived by his brother, Joel Edward Gray, and his sister, Mari Ingrid Gray. He always was proud of his siblings and there was never a dull moment when they were together.

Evan attended Mary Immaculate Catholic School where he still believed that a “Miracle” was performed to heal his “Boo-Boo!” He then went to Indian Creek Elementary School where he met many of his life-long friends. Evan then ventured to Arbor Creek Middle School, where he learned to play the saxophone. He truly believed he belonged in New Orleans as a jazz musician. Evan really enjoyed his years as an Eagle athlete. He then attended Hebron High School where he was a part of football, bowling club, math club, and the chess team. Evan was very school spirited as he participated in many school pep rallies and loved cheering for the Hawks. His true passion at Hebron was the student council. Evan was a member of Hebron’s 2005 graduating class. While in high school, Evan became a licensed insurance agent and loved his job at Hotchkiss Insurance Company. He then proceeded to Texas Tech University and was a proud Red Raider. Although he did not graduate from Tech, he was always a true Red Raider at heart. His academic interests led him to attend the University of North Texas where he graduated with Cum Laude Honors on August 13, 2010. After graduation, Evan became a manager at La Hacienda Ranch where he truly loved going to work. His co-workers and staff really had a special place in his heart.

Evan was extremely gentle and cared for anyone who crossed his path.  He never met a stranger; helping the homeless or any one in need made his day as much as it made theirs.  Evan was a friend to all, if you met him once he became your friend.  He brought life into every room he entered with his big smile and his enormous sense of humor.

Evan was very passionate and had varied interests. He was a life-long learner. Evan always knew the latest information on sports, fitness, and politics. He was always up to date on anything important. Evan was an avid reader; he was passionate about classic literature. One thing Evan loved was his Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Evan passed away on February 5, 2012 and is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Talma Maurstad; and fraternal great-grandparents, Ray and Tommie Dean. He leaves incredible memories in the hearts and minds of his parents, Eddie and Kristen; brother, Joel; sister, Mari; grandparents, Jim and Joyce Gray and Duane and Betty Maurstad; uncle, Cary Maurstad and his aunt Cyndi; cousins, Sara Maurstad; and Jill Emmons and her husband Greg; great cousins; Kylen and Kambry Emmons. Evan was loved by many and will be missed by all!

My deepest sympathies to your family for this tragic loss. Evan always energized a classroom, as he was a very, very special person. He was only officially in one of my classes, but I got to know him fairly well by his visitation of other classes and his support of our program. His energy, passion, and sense of humor positively impacted many people.

Our children are a gift and blessing from God.
Evan's life on earth was short, but he accomplished
so much in his life. May faith, love, and hope
rest in your hearts knowing that Evan is home with his
Heavenly Father, watching and interceding for each of
you. May God grant the Gray and Maursted family
peace. You all are in our prayers and thoughts!
