Francisco Laureano-Sanchez
Tuesday, October 18, 2011
Former Calhoun County resident, Francisco Laureano-Sanchez, known as Frank to his friends and family in Alabama, died the 16th of October at Presbyterian Hospital, in Plano, Texas.
At his request, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at El Pilar Funeral Home in Canovanas, PR on November 25, 2011.
Frank was born on January 30, 1941 in Old San Juan, PR. The son of Francisco, a master electrician and Anastasia, a seamstress. He attended Catholic schools and did well academically while also working several different jobs to add to his family’s income and provided care and support to his brother, Oscar, who currently lives in Miami, Fla. and his sister, Sonia that resides in Rio Grande, PR. His love of fishing and race horses was born from his boyhood jobs.
At 17 years old he joined the U.S. Army and attended Basic Training and AIT. He was then posted as a rifleman to the 20th Infantry Brigade in the Panama Canal Zone. Frank’s army career took him to Germany, Korea, Colorado (among others) and eventually, Fort McClellan. He served there as a Drill Sergeant and instructor at the 3RD Army NCO academy before retiring in the 1970s.
Here in Alabama he met his wife, Beth Laureano, who preceded him in death 4 years ago. Along with that marriage came a wonderful and loving extended family and many good memories that Frank frequently spoke of. He loved his friends and family in Alabama and rooted heartily for the Crimson Tide as long as they were not opposed by the University of Notre Dame! After his wife’s death, Frank went to live in Plano, Texas with his son of the same name and his daughter-in-law, Bridgette. We were fortunate to have him with us these last few years and he was a joy and source of strength, not to mention many laughs as he had a great sense of humor. In his short time in Texas he won over to his friendship everyone who spent any amount of time with him. The numerous sympathy cards and phone calls from people who knew him even a short time can testify to his charisma and character. Condolences may be sent to Funeraria del Pilar Ave., 65 de Infanteria km Canovanas, PR 00729.

"If a man die, shall he live again?" asked the man Job long ago.( Job 14:14, King James Version) Perhaps you, too, have wondered about this. How would you feel if you knew that a reunion with your loved ones was possible right here on earth under the best of conditions? Well, the Bible makes the promise: "Your dead ones will live....They will rise up." And the Bible also says: The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it."-Isaiah 26:19; Psalm 37:29. I hope this has brought you as much comfort as it did me in my time of sorrow.
