John Forshee

John Forshee, 65, of Houston, Texas passed away after a brief illness on Monday, August 16, 2010 in Houston, Texas.  John was born in Grapevine, Texas to Dorothy and Clyde Forshee.   During his youth he attained the distinction of Eagle Scout which served him well.

John received his BA in Government and History from North Texas State University in 1967 and his MA in Political Science and Education from Baylor University.  Since 1974 he has held faculty positions at Ranger Junior College, Western Texas College, Dallas County Community College, University of Texas-Brownsville, and for the last 16 years at San Jacinto College Central Campus in Pasadena, Texas.  He taught both lecture and internet-based courses in US and Texas Government and Politics in addition to directing internship programs and coordinating telecourses.  He developed educational plans for video programs on US and Texas Government used in over 500 colleges and universities and in several foreign countries.  He co-authored the book We the People, 3rd and 4th editions.  He was an officer and committee member of both the San Jacinto College Faculty Organization and the Texas Junior College Teachers Association and a member of Who’s Who Among American’s Teachers and Scholars.   John also published numerous articles, study guides, and faculty guides related to his academic field.

John’s other interests included collecting stamps, autographs, and murder mysteries.  A visit to his favorite store, Murder by the Book, was a joy for him and he never left empty handed.

John leaves his wife, Jane that he spoiled with morning coffee in bed, flowers and sugary cards along with many special moments filled with joy and laughter.   John was a devoted father to his two sons, Michael and Jim Forshee.  Michael and his wife Joy, of Forney, Texas presented John with his first very special grandchild, Cassidy Ryann, just this past year.  John was looking forward to two marriages this fall; that of his younger son, Jim, and his fiancée, Jennifer Lenert, of Houston and the marriage of his stepson David Ezrailson to his fiancée Rachel Copperman.  John will be missed by his family including David, Rachel, his stepdaughter Ashley King and her husband Robert; his many wonderful friends; and his dog companions, Mollie and Brinkley.

All friends and family are welcomed to the celebration of John’s life to be held on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at San Jacinto College Central Campus, Monte Blue Music Building, 8060 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, TX from 2:00 – 3:00pm.

Special thanks go to the team of physicians and nurses at Memorial City MH Hospital, especially Dr. Luis T. Campos whose expertise and integrity John greatly admired.
