Tim Thatcher

Tim Carlton Thatcher, age 41, a native of Sequim, Wa, and resident of Pflugerville , Tx, passed away peacefully in his sleep, with family present, on May 7, 2012, at Texas Medical Center in Houston, Tx.

Born to Tom and Rita Thatcher in Corvallis, Oregon, it was only fitting that Tim was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1970, as he loved American traditions: Thanksgiving dinner, July 4th fireworks, Christmas gift giving, and Opening Day baseball. It wasn't until he joined the Peace Corps and met his future wife, Cristiana, his only true love, in 1995, that Tim's personal interests became international.

Tim was an honor student at Sequim High School, graduating in 1988. He and a tight knit group of high school pals have stayed connected for life. (Tim's family would only recently learn about some of their exploits..) This would carry over to his Sigma Chi brothers at the University of Puget Sound and to his Dell Computer family. Many of you are here today. Tim was employed at Boeing in Seattle before deciding quickly to join the Peace Corps. His three- year assignment in Nicaragua, subsequent travel in Central and South America in the mid-90's, and employment for the U of Mobile, Alabama at Diriamba, Nicaragua, formed his love for all things Latin. Tim's father-in-law once said that Tim knew more about Latin culture and history than the natives.

During his travels in 1995, Tim met his future bride, Cristiana, and her mother, in a San Salvador hotel lobby. That encounter led to their marriage on April 4, 1998, in Managua, Nicaragua. Fourteen years later, they are proud parents of three beautiful children: Cristopher Alan (13), Nicolas Andres (10), and Sofia Loree (7). In 2001, Tim and family became members of St Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Pflugerville, Tx.

In addition to graduate studies in North Carolina and 11 years at Dell, Tim embarked on various hobbies. From an early age when he carved a notch in the dining room chair, to the present, he loved woodcraft. Sofia's rocking chair, Cristiana's jewelry stand, the garden bench for Mom and Pop, and hardwood projects on the drawing board, are daily reminders of his talents. He also loved traveling, camping, and fishing. Whether by foot, VW bus, plane, or boat, there were few places on earth Tim has not seen. He was in awe of the Grand Canyon. In December, 2011, he surprised his wife with a milestone birthday trip to Puerto Rico. In recent years, he and his brother engaged in several fishing trips, both in the Northwest and in Texas. Their stories often outweighed their catch.

Tim's family will remember him by their given nicknames: Amour, divinura (Cristiana), Cristo (Cristopher) , Niicooolaasss (Nicolas), and Boo Boo (Sofia). No matter what the occasion -- Little League baseball, Mojo tournaments, dance recitals, or school events, Dad was always present. His investment and love for baseball memorabilia remains intact, as Tim took the combination and passcode to his safe with him ...

Tim will be greatly missed by family and friends. His dry sense of humor, warm smile, Chicago Cubs and NC Tarheels attire, Sunday dinners that included appetizers, red wine, and desserts, and backyard barbecues became trademarks at the Thatcher household.

So..... Amor, Cristopher, Nicolas, Sofia, Rumba (dog), Todd, Mama Rita, Papa Tom, Nona, Cesar, my Latin American extended family and friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins, lifelong buddies, school , work , and neighborhood friends, "Farewell for Now.." We shall soon meet again in God's presence. Love always, Tim

The family extends our many thanks to Dr Ian McCutcheon, Dr Charles Conrad, and staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for Tim's care and to the many friends and church family whose prayers and support were constant over the past seven years.

Recitation of the Rosary will be Thursday evening, May 17, at 7:30 pm, at St Elizabeth Catholic Church, with Mass services to begin at 11 AM on Friday, May 18.

In lieu of flowers, a monetary donation to St Elizabeth Catholic Church is welcome.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

Hedwig Joanne Crete

Hedwig Joanne Crete, born Hedwig J. Kowalczyk on October 24, 1920 in Easthampton, Massachusetts, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the age of 91.

She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Ann Turner and her husband, C.B. Turner, of Plano, TX; her sister, Sophie Kowalczyk of Holyoke, MA; and granddaughter and great-granddaughter, Michelle Ann Mullen and Miranda Jack, of Chicopee, MA.  She is also survived by loving nephews and nieces, and friends.

She preferred to be called Judy.  She bravely fought a tough battle with health issues over the past few years: bronchitis, anemia, a fractured femur, and ultimately lymphoma.  She unexpectedly lost that battle on April 25, 2012, to atrial fibrillation, and she went to be with her beloved husband, Lucien A. Crete, and son, Richard D. Crete.

She spent the last thirteen months in Texas, in the frequent company of her daughter and son-in-law, and she will be missed very much.  It was difficult for her to move away from Massachusetts, where she had spent all of her 90 years, but she understood that she needed more care and she faced the move boldly.  She spent quality time every Sunday with her children, and she had many friends at Cottonwood Estates Independent Senior Living.  She enjoyed playing bingo, keeping up with current events, knitting and especially crossword puzzles.  Although her body was physically failing her, her brilliant mind remained sharp until the end.

Known as meme’, she was a devoted great-grandmother, playing an active role in Miranda’s life, and she spent many loving days caring for both Michelle and Miranda.  She attended all the functions in Miranda’s busy life, she was their biggest fan, and she will be greatly missed by both of them.  When asked to remember her meme’, these are some of the words Miranda used to describe her:  loving, smart, funny, nice, pretty, caring, understanding, awesome, knew how to use a computer… somewhat…

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Russell L. Helsley

Russell “Rusty” Lynn Helsley embodied a profound sense of decency rooted in tradition in a world where such an attribute is unfortunately rare.  Rusty left the earthly bounds on Thursday, March 1, 2012, surrounded by his greatest blessing in life – his loving family.  Rusty fought the good fight but his battle proved to be beyond insurmountable odds.

Rusty devoted his life to his three absolute loves – his wife Norma, his family and his work.  He enjoyed living life as it should be lived: fully and beyond regret.  Rusty was a friend to all.  He won the hearts of all he interacted with whether it was on a personal level or through his work.

Rusty was known to many people through a bounty of organizations namely - DFW Mailers 1967-2012, serving as Treasurer from 2006 to present, MFSA-SW 1967-2012, serving as President in 2003, a member of the Postal Council for many years, he proudly earned the Ed Helsley Memorial Award in 2005.  He was employed by his family’s business – AMSCO from 1967 to 2006.

In 2006, Rusty founded and operated Helsley Mailing Supply until his untimely death.  He loved being self-employed and taking care of his customers.  Rusty insisted that each client be treated like a personal friend and not just another account.

Rusty was a proud member of the B-Band where he played drums and sang, usually on Friday nights and for over 25 years.  He loved his fellow band members as brothers.  Rusty was active in his neighborhood as a member of the supper club, where there were numerous block parties and always plenty of good food.  He also served as Head Soccer Coach for youngest son (Chris) from 1992-1995.

Rusty was born in Dallas on June 23, 1955.  He never had a desire to leave the Dallas area.  Rusty was preceded in death by his father Edwin Helsley and his brother Jimmy Helsley.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Norma, his son Jason and fiancé Heather, and his son Christopher, his mother Lynn Helsley, his brother Thomas Helsley and his brother Scott Helsley and wife Nan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
